Creating your own website entirely from scratch may seem daunting however it’s a vital skill that every business owner today should learn. Not only will knowing how to create a website of your own save you money since you won’t need to use the services of web designers and developers, but it’ll also give you the freedom you need to follow market trends and add new functions to your site without needing assistance from a programmer.

As a result, you can stay ahead of the competition! Since building your own WordPress site requires no coding skills, it’s also a budget friendly choice. So here are some top tips to help you get started with this task.

A Quick Step-By-Step Overview Of Building A WordPress Site

Creating a WordPress website is actually quite a simple process, involving just a few easy steps. Here, we’ll look at a quick overview of everything involved in building your first ever WordPress site before we go into closer detail of each element.

  1. Sign up for a web hosting provider.
  2. Choose your website’s domain name.
  3. Install WordPress’s free software.
  4. Select your WordPress theme.
  5. Create a web page.
  6. Install some plugins.

Choosing Your Website Name

The first thing you need to do before you start the site building process is what you’re going to call it. You need to find the right name for your new website, but don’t get carried away! It may be fun but you’ll still need to put some careful thought into this. It’s surprisingly difficult to stay original since there are billions of websites these days and you may find that your preferred options are already taken.

You should also try to construct the name of your site around your organisation’s name or potentially a phrase associated with your niche. Your name needs to sound unique, be simple to memorise, short, simple to type, and include a niche-related keyword.

Buying A Hosting And Domain Name

The simplest solution is to choose a single company that can provide you with both a domain name and hosting for one package price. There are really affordable options out there that will take care of everything for you. Once you’ve made your choice, just enter a few key details – your website name, your personal details, and payment information. You can then tell your hosting provider to install the WordPress software for you.

Set Your Permalinks

Permalinks will define how each web page address is structured in your site. You need to set them correctly at this stage. You can do that from the dashboard by going to “settings” then “permalinks” then “post name”. Make sure you’ve unchecked the box that’s labelled “discourage search engines” under the “settings – Reading” section too.

Disabling Trackbacks And Pingbacks

You should disable trackbacks and pingbacks by unchecking the middle box under “Settings – Discussion”.

Set The Correct Time Zone

Setting the correct time zone makes it more predictable to publish new posts and pages. You should set your time zone either to your own location or to that of your target market. You can do this in “Settings – General”.

Choosing Your Theme

One of the best things about WordPress is that it has several design packages available that will define how your site looks. They can be quickly installed to get your site off the ground instantly. You should select a design that suits your site’s purpose.

If you need more choice of themes, you can get free ones from third party websites or pay for one from an independent store. Once you’ve selected your theme, just install it and activate it. You can then start the customisation process until your site looks just how you want it to.

Getting Plugins

Plugins will extend the abilities of your website, giving it more functionality without needing to know how to code. There are plenty of free plugins that can help with everything from analytics to SEO so just visit the dashboard, click on “Plugins” then “Add New”. You can then input your chosen plugin’s name, install it and activate it.

Creating Basic Pages

You can create pages for your site by going to the dashboard, selecting “Pages” then “Add New”.. Add your chosen content then publish it. You’ll probably need some key pages like a home page, about page and contact page, but there are other pages that you’ll probably require too depending on the purpose of your site such as FAQs, portfolio, privacy policy, and testimonials.

Start A Blog

Blogging is a great way to promote your site and its products. WordPress has its own inbuilt blogging tools so you can just add a post by visiting “Posts” and “Add New” from the dashboard and the process is virtually identical to creating a new webpage.

Adjusting Site Navigation

Once all of your pages are published, you can adjust the site navigation so it’s easy for visitors to use. You’ll need to adjust your menu settings by going to “Appearance – Menus” from the dashboard where you can choose all of the pages you’d like to include in your menu. You can also add widgets to your pages at this stage by going to “Appearance – Widgets” from the dashboard.

If you follow these helpful tips, you’ll find that it’s easier than you imagined to create your own website using WordPress. One of the best things about this website creation platform is that you can manage to do everything on your own without needing to use the services of a professional web developer or programmer.

As a result, you can save yourself a lot of effort and a lot of money when you’re launching a new business online. Without even needing to learn how to code, you can effortlessly set up and run an attractive and highly functional new website that your prospective customers can easily find, effortlessly navigate, and use to purchase goods and services in minutes. It doesn’t get simpler than that!
